THE OPPORTUNITY:
Reporting into the Training Supervisor - Mining, the Trainer & Assessor Trucks, is responsible for delivering high-quality mobile plant training services within the Mining Production department. This role ensures that operators possess the necessary skills, knowledge, and authorisations to perform safely and efficiently, contributing to optimal safe production outcomes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Training & Assessment
- Conduct Verification of Competency (VoC) assessments for haul truck operators and other mobile plant equipment within the advisor’s competency.
- Deliver structured training programs aligned with PLS standards and site-specific training plans.
- Facilitate simulator-based, classroom and in-field training to enhance operator skills, safety awareness, and safe production performance.
- Evaluate trainee performance through practical and theoretical assessments; provide constructive feedback and tailored improvement plans.
- Perform competency assessments and maintain accurate, auditable training records.
- Ensure all training and assessment activities comply with the principles of assessment: validity, fairness, reliability, flexibility, authenticity, and currency.
- Identify and report outdated, inaccurate, or unsuitable training materials to the Training Supervisor.
- Review and update training materials to ensure accuracy, relevance, and alignment with current procedures.
- Collect feedback from mining crews to enhance training effectiveness.
Operational Support
- Provide responsive, on-the-ground training support to operations as required.
- Adapt training delivery to meet changing operational needs while maintaining consistency in standards and outcomes.
- Assist trainees in understanding and applying SWI’s and operating procedures.
Mentoring & Coaching
- Mentor and coach In-Field/Line Trainers to strengthen internal training capability and consistency.
- Support continuous improvement by sharing lessons learned, promoting best practices, and encouraging feedback.
Communication & Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with trainees, supervisors, and stakeholders across all levels of the organisation.
- Promote and uphold PLS values and contribute to a positive workplace culture.
- Maintain strong working relationships with operational teams and other departments to support training outcomes.
Team & Culture
- Champion PLS values, processes and safety tools to foster a safe, inclusive, and high-performing workplace.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships across departments to support operational and training goals.
- Contribute to team development through knowledge sharing, peer support, and participation in improvement initiatives
ABOUT YOU:
- Minimum WA Manual C class driver’s licence
- Latest Trainer/Assessor Skill Set
- Minimum 1 year as a Crew Trainer or Trainer & Assessor in open-pit mining.
- 3+ years operating mobile plant equipment, with a focus on haul trucks.
- Proven skills operating Caterpillar dump trucks.
- Solid understanding of WA workplace health and safety regulations.
- Effective technical trainer with strong presentation and facilitation skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Team-oriented with a commitment to safety, environment, and continuous improvement.
- Current operational experience relevant to training and assessment.
- Skilled in coaching, mentoring, and upskilling others.
- Quick learner, adaptable to new technologies and operational changes.
- Strong commitment to safety and the environment.
