THE OPPORTUNITY:
Reporting to the Geology Superintendent, this role will be responsible for ownership and maintenance of the Grade Control Block Model and Geology model reconciliation, the development of pit scale lithology models and associated mapping, as well as other project work for the mine geology function.
This is a permanent full-time role which operates on a 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth or DIDO in the Pilbara region.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Grade Control Model
- Ensure the Grade control wireframes are accurate and up to date based upon geology mapping and drill hole assay data in agreed timeframes.
- Ensure the Grade Control Block model is accurate, up to date and meets the requirements of the mine geology and engineering teams in agreed timeframes.
- Keep track of required inputs to the Grade control model including required mapping, and drill hole assays to ensure timely production of quality models.
- Provide input into LOM and local RC Grade control drilling programs to ensure adequate inputs into the GC models.
Geology
- To develop, along with the senior geologists, systems and processes for understanding and documenting the geology and controls on mineralization
- Utilising air photography (drone photos), geochemistry (handheld XRF), drill hole logging and and blast hole mapping to produce interpreted maps of the current open pits
- Co-ordinating mapping of the current open pit walls and floors to field check, validate and correct the lithology interpretations and collect structural data.
- Champion the understanding of the geology including geology inductions, rock boards, presentations and reference guides for the geology team, operators and the general mining/metallurgy teams.
- Work with the Mine Geologist supervising the Grade control rig to ensure drilling and assaying meet the standards required in the Grade control model.
- Work with the Drilling and Laboratory contractors to ensure standards required for Resource Modelling are attained.
Other Project Work
- Assist the Mine Geology superintendent with Project work, systems implementation and other work required for continuous improvement of the mine geology function.
- Assist the Mine Geology team to minimize contamination and maximise recovery of the resource.
Leadership
- Provide leadership within the geology team with respect to the Technical aspects of the Geology.
- Provide leadership and guidance around geology and metallurgical issues and knowledge
- Step in for the Senior geologist when and if required.
Cost Management
- Assist to develop and maintain the mine geology budget and the budget of the projects.
- Assist with managing expenses within approved guidelines and limits and within budget
ABOUT YOU:
- BSc degree (preferably with Honours) or MSc in Geological/Geosciences.
- Proficient use of Leapfrog and/or other modeling software.
- Minimum 5yrs post degree experience in hard rock mining in a similar position.
- Experience in stockpile management.
- Previous experience with a production management system highly regarded.
- Experienced in RC grade control design and supervision.
- Senior First Aid & Emergency Response training
- Section 44 (Desirable)
- 4wd Defensive driving
- BSc degree (preferably with Honours) or MSc in Geological/Geosciences.
- WA C class Driver License
