THE OPPORTUNITY:

Reporting into the Applications Manager, the Data & Power BI Analyst is responsible for analysing and visualizing data to provide insights that support informed business decisions.

The Data & Power BI Analyst is responsible for the maintenance, analysis, and visualisation of data across the organisation ensuring data quality and accurate reporting.

The Data & Power BI Analyst uses existing processes to maintain, analyse and visualise data stored in databases, data warehouses, file geodatabases, spreadsheets, and flat files.

This position also provides quality assurance for dashboard and reports developed using Power BI and other analytical tools. This role contributes to the continuous business improvement of processes, data design and data use in analyses and visualisations.

The Data & Power Bi Analyst is responsible for maintaining the accuracy of the company application and system integration to ensure efficient data flow and data quality for accurate reporting and BI purpose.  The Data & Power BI Analyst is involved in the data discovery, analysis and ETL processes to ensure data quality and integrity is maintained from source system to reporting data warehouse. 

The role requires close collaboration with business, vendors, and other technical personnel in the team to deliver fit for purpose, data management, warehousing, analytics, and reporting.

This is a permanent position on a hybrid roster, which will be on an 8:6,4:3 FIFO roster (days only) based at our Pilgangoora Operation, Pilbara WA and 5:2 in our corporate office in West Perth.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Data Analysis:

  • Collect, clean, and analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
  • Utilize statistical methods and data visualization tools for effective analysis.

Power BI Development & Reporting:

  • Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports to present data in a visually compelling and accessible manner.
  • Create interactive visualizations and reports to communicate complex data insights.
  • Automate recurring reporting processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Data Modeling and Integration:

  • Develop and maintain data models for efficient data analysis and reporting within Power BI.
  • Design, development, test, and support standard integration, analytics and reporting artefacts

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into effective data visualizations.

Data Interpretation:

  • Interpret data trends and patterns to provide actionable insights and recommendations to support decision-making processes.

Training and Support:

  • Provide training and support to end-users on utilizing Power BI tools and understanding the insights derived from the data.

Data Governance and Quality:

  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability in reports and analyses.
  • Adhere to data governance standards and policies to maintain data integrity and security.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation.
  • Adhere to change management procedures and processes. 
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for PowerBI reporting solutions.
  • Follow PLS Development and deployment guidelines for Power BI Reporting
  • Optimize existing PowerBI reports/queries to ensure appropriate use of PLS resources

Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay updated on industry best practices, new features in Power BI, and emerging trends in data analytics to drive continuous improvements

Technical

  • Azure / cloud data platform and API management for application integration
  • Development and management of APIs for system integration
  • Development and management of ETL processes and data flow
  • Provide expert technical advice and support for data modeling.
  • Understand and document business processes essential for creating meaningful reports and dashboards
  • Map data flows to understand where data originates and how it moves through systems

Strategy & Planning

  • Participate in the selection, design and implementation of a data platform and data warehouse.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, process, and architecture patterns.
  • Follow PLS Technology methodologies including request, change and problem management.
  • Ensure risk assessments are performance for area of responsibility, and associated risks are captured.

ABOUT YOU:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field such as data science, statistics, or business analytics.
  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • Microsoft Power BI Certification: DA-100 | PL-300 
  • Snowflake certification “SnowPro Core COF-C02”
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R)
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
  • Knowledge of machine learning and predictive modelling is desirable.
  • 1 – 3 years in working with Data platform and data warehouses such as snowflake, delivering data analysis and analytics preferably but not limited to mining environment experience with ETL and data integration tools
  • Capacity to analyse complex issues, make decisions, and create action, with demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Results-orientation, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High-energy work ethic, ability to establish vision, drive change and deliver results
  • Ability to work in an ever-evolving environment with limited defined processes.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated and driven with a “can do” attitude.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with minimal direction
