THE OPPORTUNITY:

Reporting into the Applications Manager, the Application & Data Integration Analyst is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and infrastructure that enable efficient data flow across the organization. This role ensures data quality, consistency, and reliability from source systems through to data warehouses and analytics platforms.

The Data Engineer architects and implements robust data integration solutions, working with various data sources including operational systems, databases, file geodatabases, APIs, and external data feeds. This position focuses on ETL/ELT processes, data architecture, and ensuring data integrity throughout the data lifecycle.

The Data Engineer is responsible for cataloguing and maintaining the accuracy of the company application and system integration landscape to ensure efficient data flow and data quality for accurate reporting and BI purposes. The role involves data discovery, analysis, and ETL processes to ensure data quality and integrity is maintained from source system to reporting data warehouse.

This position provides leadership around solution architecture and application integration including data management, data warehousing, as well as for the development of a company-wide data platform. The Data Engineer will lead the technical delivery of data platform and BI solutions through the development of data management and integration standards and governance.

The role requires close collaboration with business stakeholders, application owners, vendors, and other technical personnel to deliver fit-for-purpose technical solutions for system integration, data management and warehousing, analytics, and reporting. This is a hands-on solution architect role in system integration and data management.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Data Pipeline Development & Engineering

  • Design and build scalable, robust data pipelines to support data ingestion from multiple source systems
  • Develop and maintain ETL/ELT processes using modern data engineering tools and cloud platforms
  • Architect efficient data workflows that ensure reliable, automated data movement across systems
  • Implement data orchestration and scheduling frameworks for batch and real-time data processing
  • Optimize pipeline performance for large-scale data processing requirements
  • Design, development, test, and support of standard integration, analytics and reporting artefacts

Data Quality & Governance

  • Ensure data quality and consistency standards throughout the data lifecycle
  • Implement data validation, cleansing, and transformation processes
  • Develop and enforce data quality metrics and monitoring frameworks
  • Create and maintain data quality documentation and reporting
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability in reports and analyses
  • Adhere to data governance standards and policies to maintain data integrity and security
  • Develop data integration standards and governance processes
  • Ensure design and integration documentation is up-to-date and stored in appropriate knowledge repositories

System Architecture & Integration

  • Architect integrations with source systems including operational applications, databases, and external data feeds
  • Provide leadership and advice on system integration, data governance, and data management
  • Develop and maintain architecture and integration framework, principles, and standards for Pilbara Minerals
  • Review technical solution architecture and design for new projects/systems implementation to ensure alignment with company technology standards and principles
  • Document existing application landscape and maintain accurate records on application and integrations
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, design documents, and application integration documentations
  • Azure / cloud data platform and API management for application integration
  • Development and management of APIs for system integration

Data Ingestion & Management

  • Ensure robust, reliable data ingestion processes from diverse source systems
  • Develop and maintain data models for efficient data analysis and reporting within the data platform
  • Manage data storage solutions including databases, data warehouses (Snowflake), and cloud storage
  • Implement and maintain appropriate system and security controls for data access
  • Provide governance and management over the company data reporting, data management and integration
  • Participate in the selection, design and implementation of a data platform and data warehouse

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to technical teams and stakeholders, ensuring that solutions are designed and implemented to meet business requirements and are scalable, secure, and maintainable
  • Provide expert technical advice and support for data modeling and pipeline architecture
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, process, and architecture patterns
  • Stay updated on industry’s best practices, new features in data engineering tools, and emerging trends in data analytics to drive continuous improvement

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate with business unit leaders to assess near and long-term data management, reporting and analytics needs
  • Work closely with Data Analysts, BI Developers, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements
  • Provide relevant information to managers, supervisors, co-workers, and employees through various communication channels
  • Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships within own team and across teams

Strategy & Planning

  • Participate in the selection, design and implementation of a data platform and data warehouse
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, process, and architecture patterns
  • Follow Pilbara Minerals Technology methodologies including request, change and problem management
  • Ensure risk assessments are performance for area of responsibility, and associated risks are captured

Operational Excellence

  • Identify and resolve faults and issues for users
  • Implement and maintain appropriate system and security controls, security levels and systems access according to agreed design, process, and procedure
  • Develop and maintain relevant documentation and procedures
  • Adhere to change management procedures and processes
  • Prioritize and schedule problems, escalate problems when required
  • Follow PLS change management procedure and take necessary care and ownership when performing changes

ABOUT YOU:

  • Tertiary qualification in the form of an IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or Data Science Degree
  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Cloud related Certification (Azure, AWS, Google)
  • Current C Class Australian Driver's License
  • 1-5 years in data engineering delivering data integration and pipeline solutions, preferably but not limited to mining environment
  • 1-5 years with ETL and data integration tools including experience with modern data engineering platforms
  • 1-3 years working with Data platforms and data warehouses such as Snowflake, delivering data analysis and analytics
  • 1-5 years in API development and support for system integration
  • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL) for data pipeline development
  • Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS) including data services and infrastructure
  • Strong understanding of data modeling concepts for efficient data storage and retrieval
  • Experience with data orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, Azure Data Factory)
  • Knowledge of version control systems (Git) and CI/CD practices for data pipelines
  • Understanding of data security and compliance requirements
  • Good communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Service, project and results-orientation with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High-energy work ethic with ability to establish vision, drive change and deliver results
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Self-motivated and driven with a "can do" attitude
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with minimal direction
