The opportunity
Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Control Room Technician (CRT) is accountable for the safeguarding of plant, equipment, and systems ensuring that they are operated in line with approved plant operating parameters and procedures to ensure consistent production rates, quality specifications, and plant performance. This includes monitoring and interpreting real-time data, plant and equipment trends, process control performance including alarms monitoring to optimise plant performance.
This is a permanent full-time role which operates on an 8:6/7:7 FIFO roster from Perth or DIDO in the Pilbara region.
Key responsibilities
- Operate the Mid-Stream plant safely to plan and within operating parameters
- Monitor and control processes via DCS/SCADA; respond to alarms and upsets
- Coordinate with Operations/Maintenance/Engineering and deliver clear shift handovers
- Execute start-ups, shutdowns and isolations to procedures
- Validate instruments and control loops; manage alarms and trends
- Maintain accurate logs and escalate safety/quality/equipment issues
- Comply with HSE systems of work; support emergency response
- Support commissioning, punch listing and ramp-up activities
- Drive optimisation and continuous improvement; support RCA/5-Whys
- Coach operators and contribute to SWIs and troubleshooting guides
About you
- Proven control room experience operating fixed plant (mining/processing/refining)
- Strong DCS/SCADA skills with the ability to diagnose alarms, trends and upsets
- Safety-first mindset, high process discipline, and clear communication under pressure
- Commissioning/start-up and ramp-up experience (owners’ team desirable)
- Sound understanding of process safety, chemical hazards and environmental compliance
- High attention to detail with strong decision-making in a dynamic environment
- Collaborative approach working with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and contractors
- Comfortable coaching others and lifting capability through standardised ways of working
- Current WA C Class licence and full Australian working rights (WAH/Confined Space/First Aid desirable)
