The opportunity

Reporting to the Lead Project Accountant, this role will be responsible for recording, valuation, accounting, reporting and timely capitalisation of capital projects. The Capital Accountant will work closely with the Project and Operations team, as well as the Finance & Tax team.

This is a permanent full-time role based at our West Perth office, conveniently located near the City West train station.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the fixed asset lifecycle, including asset creation, transfers, depreciation, impairment reviews, disposals, write-offs and ongoing register maintenance.
• Record, value, account for and report on capital projects, ensuring timely and accurate capitalisation in line with accounting, tax and governance requirements.
• Monitor and analyse Capital Work in Progress balances, working with project and operational teams to ensure project costs are appropriately grouped, componentised and capitalised.
• Review and process Authorisations for Expenditure, ensuring alignment with delegation authorities, approved budgets, business cases and capital governance procedures.
• Create and maintain capital projects within the ERP system to support accurate cost tracking, reporting, budgeting and forecasting activities.
• Prepare information and supporting documentation for month-end reporting, audits and ad hoc requests while partnering effectively with Finance, Tax, Project and Operations teams.

About you

• Detail-oriented finance professional with experience in capital accounting, fixed assets or a similar technical accounting role.
• CA or CPA qualified, with a degree in Accounting, Commerce, Finance or a related discipline.
• Experienced in capital accounting, fixed assets or a similar technical accounting role, ideally within an ASX-listed or complex corporate environment.
• Confident working with accounting standards, fixed asset registers, depreciation, capitalisation, CWIP and audit requirements.
• Highly capable in Microsoft Excel, Word and accounting systems, with ERP experience highly regarded and Pronto experience desirable.
• A proactive communicator who can build strong relationships with Finance, Tax, Project, Operations and senior stakeholder groups.
• Self-driven, organised and comfortable taking initiative, making sound decisions and supporting accurate month-end, budgeting, forecasting and reporting outcomes.
