The opportunity
Reporting to the Health & Safety Superintendent, this role will provides professional health and safety leadership and technical support to site operations, enabling effective risk management and consistent application of safety systems. The role works closely with leaders and the workforce to verify critical controls, investigate incidents, build capability, and drive continuous improvement to achieve health and safety objectives and legislative compliance.
This is a permanent full-time role which operates on a 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth or DIDO in the Pilbara region.
Key responsibilities
- Provide specialist health and safety advice and support to the Operations Manager, Department Managers, and other staff to assist with risk management and decision-making activities.
- Proactively utilise the Health and Safety Management Systems
- Apply Health and Safety practises and initiatives on site that lead to achieving Health and Safety objectives and targets
- Support the business to effectively and consistently apply and review risk management processes
- Complete activities as defined in the Plan on a Page (POAP)
- Undertake or assist in accident and incident investigations and ensuring investigations are completed to a quality where causes are identified and corrective actions are in place to prevent a recurrence.
- Analyse and review health and safety incidents to ensure appropriate actions are assigned to prevent reoccurrence.
- Facilitate and drive Safety and Health representative committee (HSRs) meetings;
- Provide advice regarding health and safety obligations and communicated changes.
- Lead, guide, support and mentor frontline leaders in developing health and safety knowledge.
- Responsible for completing the following with frontline leaders:
- Planned Inspections, Safety Interactions and planned task observations in the field
- Corrective action verifications.
- Critical Control Verifications in the field
- Responsible for the coaching of applications in the field of safety tools such as task observations, Take 5, JSAs, inspections, and verifications.
- Prepare data and report on safety performance for daily and weekly meeting and reports
- Present relevant safety training packages for use across the site.
- Implement the Audit and Compliance Program that supports the site in health and safety best practice and legislative requirements.
- Support the business to effectively and consistently apply and review risk management processes
- Any other duties as directed by Health & Safety Superintendent
About you
- Certificate IV Training and Assessment
- Advanced PC skills and computer literacy i.e. Microsoft applications mainly excel/word
- Experience in Incident Investigation (ICAM certification - Essential Factors preferred)
- Strong clinical decision making and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment
- Strong commitment to safety and the environment
