The opportunity
Reporting to the Geology Suberintendent the Senior Pit Technician is responsible for ensuring the Pit Technicians on their crew enforce best practice excavation of the ore and following of dig plans and assist with grade control practices and ore mark outs.
This is a permanent full-time role based at our Pilgangoora Operation in the Pilbara region, which operates on an 8:6 FIFO roster from Perth or DIDO in the Pilbara region.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise and support Pit Technicians on shift, including work allocation and handovers.
- Coach teams in best practice ore spotting and grade control to maximise recovery and minimise dilution.
- Support Mine Geologists with grade control programs, ore mark‑outs and in‑pit activities.
- Direct excavator and haul truck operators to ensure correct material movement.
- Deliver on‑the‑job training for Pit Technicians and excavator operators, including permit compliance.
- Undertake sampling activities (grade control, blast hole, XRF and SG) with accurate recording.
- Maintain geological data, sample records and assist with assay and data entry tasks.
- Monitor safety, clean ore compliance, inspections and key operational KPIs.
- Manage geology equipment, consumables and housekeeping standards.
- Promote a strong safety culture and demonstrate PLS values through everyday actions.
About you
- Demonstrated experience as a Pit Technician, ideally in a senior or lead capacity within an open‑pit mining environment.
- Strong understanding of grade control, ore spotting and clean ore practices.
- Confident working closely with geologists, operators and mining teams to achieve production outcomes.
- Proven ability to coach, train and support others in a safety‑focused, collaborative way.
- High attention to detail with accurate sampling, data recording and reporting skills.
- Strong commitment to safety, compliance and environmental responsibility.
- Comfortable working FIFO and in physically demanding, outdoor operating conditions.
- Proficient in basic computer systems and geological data entry (Microsoft Office).
- Current WA Driver’s Licence and right to work in Australia.
