THE OPPORTUNITY:
Reporting to the Manager Mine Planning, the Principal Mine Planning Engineer will assist with the development and maintenance of the Company’s strategic mine plans to optimise current and future operations. Responsible for both site and corporate stakeholders with high level technical expertise to support the company’s operations.
This is a permanent full-time role based at our beautiful West Perth office, near the City West train station. Occasional travel to our Pilgangoora Operation in the Pilbara region may be required for the role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Core duties and responsibilities of this role:
- Assist with the development and maintenance of fit-for-purpose systems for studies and Life-of-Mine planning
- Prepare and support timely, optimised and accurate studies and mine plans for all Operations including infrastructure, mining methods, equipment, designs, schedules and financials
- Identify, assess, and manage risks to the execution of the mine plan
- Provide guidance and general oversight with the development of 5-year and Life of Mine plans.
- Ensure compliance to applicable mine safety standards, legislation, regulations and environmental laws, in all mine designs, 5-year and Life of Mine plans
- Liaise with peers across the operation to identify and monitor key inputs to the integrated plan, and analyse and benchmark performance to the inputs
- Review planning systems and procedures as required to align with the medium to short term planning requirements to deliver and maintain a robust planning system
- Assist with the Ore Reserve estimation process, including reconciliation of planned verses actual.
- Assist with mining equipment selection
- Collaborate and assist with peer review analysis to identify new business opportunities.
- Assist with studies including but not limited to new mine developments, fleet selection, project evaluation, business development and continuous improvement opportunities
ABOUT YOU:
- Degree qualified in Mining Engineering (or equivalent)
- WA Unrestricted QM ticket highly regarded
- Significant exposure to an operational environment
- 10+ years mine planning experience
- Experience in strategic planning, life-of-mine planning and site-based production planning
- Proficient in the use of mine planning software programs such as Whittle, Minemax and Datamine
- Competent in the Microsoft Office suites of applications, with advanced Excel skills preferred
- Understanding of operational constraints and geotechnical issues
- Cost modelling and cost management experience
- High level of competency in report writing.
- Strong technical and practical experience essential
- Possess a practical understanding of risk assessment
- Experience in hard rock mining of pegmatite deposits.
- Proficiency in using open pit optimization and mine scheduling optimization software.
- Setting up systems and procedures.
- Ability to build complex mine cost models in excel from first principles desirable
- Ability to speak Portuguese desirable but not essential.
