THE OPPORTUNITY: 

Reporting to the Process Superintendent, the role of Permitting & Isolation Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing and establishing uniformity across all isolation practices, plans, and systems.  Acting in a primary leadership role for all aspects associated with Pilbara Minerals Permit to work system, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the execution of efficient, safe, and secure isolation practices.  Your adept planning, aimed at standardising and streamlining isolation processes, elevating the efficiency and triumph of our day-to-day operations and scheduled maintenance outage planning.

Further to the execution of day-to day isolation plans, you will be required to provide support during the continued growth and expansion phases of this business including documentation management, establishing isolation procedures for newly commissioned systems and auditing field compliance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Permitting Officer

  • Managing the PTW systems in line with Pilbara Minerals policies and procedures.
  • Regularly auditing permit to work systems, identify gaps and apply best practices to rectify and reduce likely hood of system failures.
  • Ensure PTW processes are standardised across Pilgan and Ngungaju operations.
  • Develop and execute “management of change” requirements for PTW systems.
  • Develop, review, and implement isolation plans for all areas of the process plant.
  • Integration of new process infrastructure to the PTW system, including crushing and ore sorting and P1000.
  • Ensure all isolation points in the field a clear and match documented isolation lists.
  • Conduct regular P&ID reviews in the field and submit “redlining” through the correct workflows.
  • Coordinate all isolation plans to ensure seamless execution of production and maintenance shut down schedules.
  • Provide high level and detailed permit planning updates to the Process Superintendent.
  • Provide assurance and evidence that all complex isolation plans are developed, implemented and are comprehensive to cover scopes of work for equipment within the process plant in line with PLS procedures.
  • Communicate all permitted activities across the workforce within the process plant.
  • Develop a document control environment for PTW documentation.
  • Manage and maintain PTW documentation including high risk work certificates.
  • Manage direct reports and provide training to Permit and Isolation Officers.
  • Deliver and maintain the online training courses for various levels of permit control – Work Group, Permit Holder, Area Authority, Isolating Authority, Isolation Checker through to Issuing Authority.
  • Manage the training plan to develop competent isolators within the process team to support operational needs.
  • Implement isolation plans for short, medium, and long-term maintenance plans.
  • Maintain isolation and gas testing equipment to highest standards.
  • Manage the Permit Office and isolation safety equipment budget.
  • Review external contractor isolation procedures against PLS systems and procedures to ensure compliance when these parties conduct work.
  • Develop and roll out isolation audit schedule.
  • Demonstrate leadership and mature behavioural qualities to provide essential support to the Process Department in teamwork, culture, and engagement to achieve consistency and alignment across all Process Crews.
  • Supervise Permit & Isolation Officers to ensure high quality performance outcomes and continuous development of personnel.

Health Safety and Environment

  • Undertake required safety lead indicator field interactions and perform or coordinate inspections and document findings.
  • Develop systems to manage PTW document control compliance.
  • Contribute to the effective reduction in risks through continuous improvement of PTW systems.
  • Overseeing the isolation of equipment and systems within the process plant to ensure the safety of personnel working on maintenance, repair, or modification activities. Coordinating the isolation process, verifying isolation points, and ensuring that all energy sources (electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, etc.) are properly locked out and tagged out (LOTO) to prevent accidental re-energization.

This is a permanent full-time role based at our Pilgangoora Operation which operates on a 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth or DIDO in the Pilbara region.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Driver’s License (WA C-class or equivalent)
  • Certificate IV Training & Assessment
  • +5 years of solid experience in fixed plant process operations, with a strong understanding of minerals processing, including milling and gravity circuit, flotation circuit, Heavy Media Separation (HMS), Tailings Storage Facility (TSF), Filter Press and Control Room operations
  • +3 years’ Leadership experience or in a specialist role within a Processing/Operations team
  • Significant experience and competent in Permit to Work Systems and standards
  • Ability to read and understand P&ID and engineering drawings
  • Highly proficient in the Microsoft Office suite including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Project
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Teamwork and ability to contribute to a team culture
  • Initiative
  • Sound knowledge of mining, safety, and environmental legislation and how this relates to Permit to Work and risk management
  • Experienced in plant shut down planning and run up
