THE OPPORTUNITY:
Reporting to the Senior Geologist, this role is responsible for the day-to-day activities of geology grade control, geological interpretation and processing of accurate data to grade control geological resource modelling and estimation to support mine production targets.
This is a permanent full-time role based at our Pilgangoora Operation which operates on a 8/6 ; 7/7 FIFO roster from Perth or DIDO in the Pilbara region.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Grade Control
- Assist Senior Geologist in the design, scheduling, implementation and supervision of RC grade control drilling programs.
- Geological logging of RC grade control chips, including updating geology sections, plans and long sections with logging and sampling information.
- Ensure that quality assurance/control is undertaken during the drilling program and assay process.
- Liaise with Drilling contractors, Survey and Pit technicians to ensure safe day to day management of the grade control drill programs and sampling process.
- Organise the process of sample collection, submission and delivery of samples, validation and QAQC,.
- Assist in the interpretation of the deposits structure, lithology and mineralisation by bench and wall mapping, logging and sampling. Understand, document and communicate the geology of the open pit mine.
Production Geology
- Design accurate and mineable post blast ore and waste mark-outs and communicate mining instructions to maximise recovery, throughput and grade to the ROM/stockpiles.
- Conduct ore mark outs, ore spotting and bench mapping to maximise recovery of ore and to make sure mined material is sent to the correct stockpile.
- Ensure the Ore spotters and operators involved in ore extraction have everything they need to identify ore, contam and waste and are aware of and following the excavation plans.
- Collect, validate and deliver accurate daily production data within agreed timeframes.
- Ensure all plans, instructions and reports are provided to stakeholders within agreed lead times.
- Ensure accurate contribution to end of month processing and reconciliation and provide to the Senior Geologist in a timely manner.
- Participate in Geology team meetings and contribute to the planning process as directed by the Senior Geologist
- Liaising with the Mining team, Mine Production Engineers and the drilling and blasting contractors as required.
- Liaising with Metallurgists with respect to ROM and ROM feed requirements.
- Manage ROM and stockpiling processes to meet the requirements of the Processing plant
- Undertake geological mapping of pit walls, floors and blast holes to understand and define the geometry of the lodes, controls on mineralization and to identify hazards.
- Undertake geotechnical window mapping to identify geotechnical hazards and to supply geotechnical contractors with quality data.
ABOUT YOU:
- BSc degree (preferably with Honours) or MSc in Geological/Geosciences.
- WA C class Driver License
- Proficient use of Surpac and modeling software.
- Minimum 2-3 yrs post degree experience in hard rock mining in a similar position.
- Basic database and Microsoft Office skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and collaborate to achieve results.
- Attention to detail.
- Able to work with minimal supervision
